Kathy Welsh in Del Mar
Kathy welsh competed in the CPEID3* in Del Mar, California. Nicola Turner, Monday, 29 March 2010 Australian Kathy Welsh tells us about her experience in Del Mar, California...

My introduction to compete in Para Equestrian certainly wasn’t how I had planned to enter the discipline.   I recently took part in a CPEDI3* in Del Mar California on a lovely 24 year old mare owned and trained by Robin Garrett.   After I had decided to try and do the qualifier for Kentucky in America, I started down the long path of finding a horse to ride in the competition. After many emails and phone calls I got a response from Robin saying she may have what I was looking for. Once meeting her and the horse in Del Mar I realised how fortunate I was to come across such a giving and caring person.    Robin trained me every day for 7 days before the competition then warmed me up every day before the test. To say I was nervous was an understatement.   The Para officials were also so welcoming and helpful. With times being changed the night before they would SMS the details to me so I didn’t have to wait at the event. Much appreciated.   I achieved 0ver 60% in all 3 Level 4 tests which was a big sigh of relief (also for my husband who was ‘strapper’ for the first time).  I now welcome the next stage of the process.   I would also like to thank the staff in the EA national office who made sure I had all documents required for an International Competition. Any hiccup I came across was soon smoothed out.   Thanks also to Peter Horobin who ensured my horse looked the part.  It was certainly and experience to look back on with many happy memories.   Regards,   Kathy
